Nepal-China Disaster: Nepal-China Disaster: China Warns of Second Flood Risk as Barrier Lake Threatens Breach Following Nepal-Tibet Disaster: In late August 2026, catastrophic flash flooding struck the China-Nepal border region. Triggered by a massive glacial and rock collapse on Mount Langtang Lirung in Tibet, the initial surge devastated infrastructure along the border, including the Gyirong Port, and surged down the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems. The disaster resulted in hundreds of casualties and left more than 1,000 people missing across both countries. Formation of the Barrier Lake: Following the main flood event, massive debris and mudslides dammed the river flow near the confluence of the Chhochen Khola and Purepu Tsangpo rivers.
