Casualties: At least 3 deaths have been confirmed, with multiple victims rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre in critical condition.
Trapped Occupants: Dozens of people, predominantly students and laborers, were feared trapped beneath the rubble, with several students making phone calls from under the debris for help.
Adjacent Damage: The impact of the collapse caved in the neighboring building, damaging its structure and prompting authorities to vacate nearby premises as a precaution.
Reported Cause: Eyewitnesses and initial reports indicate that renovation work and basement construction were underway, which weakened the building's support pillars.
Rescue Operations & Administration Response
Multi-Agency Action: Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services (DFS), Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Delhi Police, and CATS ambulances were deployed to the site on a war footing. Heavy equipment, including JCBs, was brought in to remove debris, alongside locals assisting in the efforts.
Chief Minister’s Visit: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reached the site to oversee the rescue operations firsthand, assuring full administrative coordination and medical assistance for the victims.
Legal Action: Delhi Police initiated the process of registering an FIR to investigate structural negligence and unauthorized alterations to the building.
