The 2026 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, held on January 15, 2026, have resulted in a historic shift in Mumbai's political landscape. The results, declared on January 16, 2026, mark the end of nearly three decades of dominance by the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena over India’s richest civic body.
Key Highlights of the 2026 BMC Results:
BJP Emergence: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the single largest party, leading or winning in approximately 90–100 wards out of 227.
Mahayuti Victory: The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance (including Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena) comfortably crossed the majority mark of 114, securing over 130 seats collectively.
